Overview
DB Elementals is a multi-database management and development tool built on the
Microsoft .Net platform. DB Elementals is designed to simplify database
management, development and maintenance tasks across a variety of database
platforms by providing a consistent user interface experience combined with an
extremely complete set of management and productivity features.
Currently we have support for the Microsoft SQL Server database
platform with others such as Oracle and IBM DB2 under development.
DB Elementals provides simple visual interfaces to all database tasks,
generating the necessary SQL operations automatically. However, unlike many
other database tools, the user is always in control and can
instantly see which operations will be performed at each step - a great way for
novices to learn while giving advanced users all the flexibility they require
and the peace of mind that there will be no black box operations
performed against their critical databases.
Features
Application Features
-
DB Elementals is designed from the ground up to support multiple database types
and to provide a consistent functional and visual experience across the
different databases. Currently Microsoft SQL server 2000 is supported with
Oracle and DB2 support under development.
-
DB Elementals encompasses all the productivity features of a modern Microsoft
Windows application all of which have been adapted appropriately for a
technical environment to provide a familiar and powerful user experience.
-
Easy to navigate tree-based database explorer allowing simultaneous connection
to multiple databases.
-
Grouped-tabbed MDI style interface that keeps database instance views separate.
-
Connections can be aliased and grouped to simplify dealing a with large number
of database instances.
-
Allows secure remote connections.
-
While the application provides much of the functionality to manage and create
database objects, the control rests with the end user by always showing the SQL
statements generated for an operation. The SQL statements are automatically
updated as options are selected in the user interface.
Database Object Management Features
-
DB Elementals currently supports viewing, creating, altering and dropping of
the following database objects:
Databases, Tables, Views, Procedures, Functions, Indexes, Triggers,
Constraints, Datatypes, Roles, Users, Defaults, Rules.
-
The ability to generate SQL for changes to objects that require the dropping
and recreation of an object including any data currently stored in that object.
-
Easily create objects based on current objects.
-
View/kill active processes, process locks, CPU usage, memory and disk
utilization.
Source Control Features
-
Integrates with any SCC compliant source control system such as Microsoft
Visual SourceSafe.
-
Source control for projects and workspaces much like Visual Studio, including
direct database object source control management in the database explorer tree
view.
SQL Editor Features
-
Syntax highlighting.
-
Code complete.
-
Advanced data editor (including viewing image data thumbnails in the data
grid), uploading and saving of blob data from/too disk, and strict data
validation on data input for all datatypes.
-
Queries can be run in 'test mode' with auto-rollback functionality.
-
Data results can be saved in XML, Excel, HTML or CSV formats.
-
SQL statements can be copied to the clipboard as HTML or RTF with preservation
of syntax highlighting.
Database Scripting Features
-
Powerful individual object scripting including creation, selection, insertion,
deletion and many more. Generate scripts to new edit windows, to the windows
clipboard or directly to file.
-
Specialised productivity scripting features such as automatically generating
stored procedures that perform inserts or updates on tables.
Database Documentation Features
-
Generates documentation for one or multiple databases in one file.
-
HTML or Microsoft Compiled Help (chm) output formats.
-
Choose which objects and which object properties you wish to include in a
simple visual manner.
-
Save documentation profiles for later use.
Additional Features
-
Automatic Updates.
-
Integrated Error Reporting.
-
Easy installation with no server-side installation required.
